“This work is spectacular. Marty Manning paints in the old master tradition of exhibiting her virtuosity and going all-out for effect.”
- said Willem J. de Looper, Curator of the Phillips Collection, Washington, DC in March 1987 when judging for one-person shows at the Art League.
That show, Marty’s ninth one-woman show, was exhibited at the Torpedo Factory, Alexandria Virginia in 1988. Marty has exhibited her watercolors in 16 one-woman shows since 1981 and has been in numerous national group shows in Washington DC and Phoenix Arizona. The winner of many awards, Marty’s paintings have been featured on the covers of The Artist’s Illustrated Encyclopedia and two national magazines. Marty’s work is represented in collections in the U.S. and internationally, including the U.S. embassies in Belgium and India. The Marriott Hotel commissioned 44 of Marty’s original watercolor paintings between 1983 and 1990. Marty was chosen as one of the top 200 painters in the United States in 1991 and 1993 (competing against some 16,000 and 11,000 entrants, respectively). She attained artist member “signature” status in the Virginia Watercolor Society and Potomac Valley Watercolor Society in Virginia, and is a juried member in the Arizona Artists Guild, Contemporary Watercolorists of Arizona, and the Arizona Watercolor Association.
